The Wand anesthesia
For anesthesia in our clinic, we often use an innovative method based on The Wand system. These are modern, computer-controlled systems for the painless administration of dental anesthesia. The system consists of a small computer and a special handpiece that looks like a pen. The administration of the anesthesia itself is done manually - the doctor places the handpiece against the patient's gum and administers the anesthetic drug under microprocessor control.
The Wand System
The computer constantly informs about the subsequent stages of the drug penetrating into the tissues and controls the entire process. In this way, we anesthetize only the area to be treated, e.g., a single tooth. At the same time, there is no tissue expansion, which is often perceived as pain of varying intensity. Thanks to The Wand, the fluid is injected at a speed that allows the tissues to absorb it on an ongoing basis. High pressure is not created, so there is no unpleasant feeling of gum expansion.
How does it work?
Anesthesia with The Wand takes about 3 minutes depending on the location and anesthetic technique, with the tissues being anesthetized immediately after the application is completed, allowing the procedure to begin.
With traditional techniques, the waiting time for the anesthetic to take effect from the moment of injection is about 10-15 minutes.
The Wand application tips look almost like a pen, with a shorter or longer needle at the end. A special technique of guiding the tip through the tissues ensures that the patient does not feel its presence in the gum. This is because the anesthetic fluid is applied continuously while the needle is being inserted deep into the tissues. The fluid creates a kind of shield at the tip of the needle - the so-called anesthetic pathway. This means that the anesthetic reaches the tissues first, and only then does the needle approach the already anesthetized tissues. As a result, the needle moves through already anesthetized tissues, which is why the patient does not feel its presence.
